How often should my dog be groomed?
This depends on your dog’s breed, coat type, and lifestyle. Most dogs benefit from grooming every 4–8 weeks to keep their coat healthy, clean, and tangle-free.
How long does a grooming appointment take?
Most appointments take between 1½ and 3 hours, depending on your dog’s breed, size, coat condition, and the services required.
What is included in a full groom?
Our full groom typically includes:
Bath and blow dry
Coat brushing and de-shedding
Breed-specific or owner-requested styling
Nail trimming
Ear cleaning
Hygiene trim (where required)
Finishing spray and lots of cuddles!
Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes, all grooming appointments must be booked in advance. Walk-in nail trims are available on Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays.
Can puppies be groomed?
Absolutely! We recommend introducing puppies to grooming from around 12 weeks old (once they’ve had their vaccinations). Our puppy grooms are designed to be gentle and help your puppy feel comfortable and confident.
What if my dog is nervous?
Many dogs feel anxious during their first visit. We work patiently and at your dog’s pace, using calm, positive handling to make the experience as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.
Do you groom elderly dogs?
Yes. We regularly groom senior dogs and tailor each appointment to their individual needs, ensuring they’re comfortable throughout the process.
My dog’s coat is matted. What happens?
If your dog’s coat is severely matted, clipping may be the kindest and safest option to avoid causing pain or discomfort. We’ll always discuss this with you before starting.
Do I need to stay during the appointment?
No. Most dogs are more relaxed when their owners leave. We always give you a rough time to collect your dog after their groom. If we run over, we will contact you to let you know.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
We kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment. This allows us to offer the space to another customer. Cancellation charges may apply. Please read our Terms and Conditions before booking.
Do you offer teeth cleaning?
Yes! We offer Emmi-Pet ultrasonic teeth cleaning, a gentle, non-invasive treatment that helps reduce plaque, tartar, and bad breath without the need for anaesthesia. Please see our page dedicated to teeth cleaning.
Do you trim nails without a full groom?
Yes, we offer a walk-in nail clipping service on Monday, Tuesday & Friday.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, Scamps Grooming Parlour is fully insured, giving you peace of mind while your dog is in our care.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Simply bring your dog on a lead (or in a secure carrier if appropriate). New customers will be asked to complete a registration form so we can gather important information about their dog’s health and grooming needs.
Can you groom all breeds?
Yes! We welcome dogs of all breeds, sizes, and coat types, tailoring every groom to suit your dog’s individual needs.
